Pathing Matsang Rinchhen Tse Gonpa

I got chance to visit Linkoed Matsang gonpa at beautiful village matsang, Pakyoung.  It is said that the monastery has been shifted from Lingkoed Village to matsang, the present site i.e. Matsang and re-established in the year of 1860 A.D by a Lama known as “Lharib Dawa” who named it “Linkoed Matsang Rinchen Tse Gonpa". The Lamas rebuilt the present monastery in 1982 due to structural damages caused by an earthquake. However, it was remodeled in 2005 with government aid and renamed as “Pathing Matsang Rinchhen Tse Gonpa” since the monastery is  located on a small hillock of Matsang village within Pathing area. The original monastery at Lingkoed was founded by a Lama called Drubwang PemaTsondu. It belongs to Nyingmapa Sect of Buddhism. Today it has become one of the major monasteries in East Sikkim and functions all the  ceremonies with annual mask dance annual fest known as 'Gumpa Mela' during winters where the character named 'Acharey' was the center of attraction...

TsomgoLake མཚོ་མགོ

TsomgoLake Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake is a glacial lake in the East Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim, some 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the capital Gangtok. Located at an elevation of 3,753 m (12,313 ft), the lake remains frozen during the winter season. The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks prognosticated after studying the changing colours of the lake. In Tibetan/Bhutia/Sherpa language the name མཚོ་མགོ་ Tsomgo is made of two words 'Tso' meaning "lake" and 'Mgo' meaning "head" which gives the literal meaning as "source of the lake",  the lake is surrounded by steep mountains which are covered with snow during winter.

Nalanda University

Nalanda, a large Buddhist monastery, now in ruins, was one of the most publicly acknowledged Mahaviharas of ancient India located in ancient Magadha kingdom (modern Bihar). It remained a learning centre from 7th century BCE through c. 1200 CE and is many a time categorised as one of the early universities of India along with other institutions like ‘Vikramashila’ and ‘Taxila’. The patronage of the Gupta Empire saw this Mahavihara prosper during 5th and 6th century as also during the reign of emperor Harsha of Kannauj. However tantric developments of Buddhism during the Pala rule saw an eventual decline of Nalanda. Students and scholars from places like China, Central Asia, Korea and Tibet studied in this great vihara that taught Mahayana, Hinayana, Sanskrit grammar, Vedas and Samkhya among others.
